Today I want to share with you an experience that changed my life: my ascent of the Volcano of Fire in Guatemala. Exactly one year ago, in April 2023, we embarked on what would be Aletazul 's first adventure. We were a group of four people: Erick, the founder of Aletazul, André, Alex and me.
For me, this journey represented much more than just exploration. From the moment I learned about the existence of this active volcano, I became obsessed with the idea of conquering it. We organized this trip with a clear objective in mind: to climb the volcano and live a unique experience.
I couldn't believe that there was a mountain that erupted every 15 minutes. So, when the opportunity arose, I didn't think twice and we set off on the adventure.
Physical and mental preparation for this expedition was crucial. Although none of us were fully prepared, we did the best we could. The altitude and the weight of our backpacks, loaded with water, food and photography equipment, made the ascent quite a challenge. I recommend carrying hiking poles to make the ascent easier and being prepared for sudden changes in weather, such as intense cold at the summit.
As for equipment, the choice of each item was fundamental. I recommend bringing versatile clothing, such as the Bamboo Pro Long Sleeve, which adapts to both heat and cold. In addition, a good backpack, such as the Aletazul Drybag, is essential to protect your belongings from rain and dirt during the ascent.
Despite having run a week earlier, the hike turned out to be a greater physical challenge than expected. The altitude and uneven terrain made every step an effort, but the rewards were worth it.
Planning the trip was another key aspect. We looked for a professional and responsible agency to guide us through the expedition. We also made sure that we were financially prepared to cover all the expenses of the trip.
The formation of the team was spontaneous, but we soon became a united group with a common goal: to conquer the Volcano of Fire. We all share the same mentality of seeking new experiences and challenges in nature.
During the climb, we faced minor logistical challenges, but nothing that could stop us. We were determined to reach the summit and witness the majesty of the volcano.
The climb up the volcano was an unforgettable experience. From the dense jungle to the volcanic terrain, each step brought us closer to our goal. Although the weather did not allow us to see the volcano at first, perseverance paid off when we witnessed an eruption from the summit.
Safety was a constant concern throughout the expedition. We trusted our guides and took precautions to ensure our safety in dangerous areas, such as falling rocks.
Emotionally, this experience was transformative. It gave me confidence in my abilities as a photographer and inspired me to pursue my dreams with more determination. Watching the sunrise from the top of the volcano was an epic moment that I will never forget.
This experience has broadened my perspective on nature and motivated me to continue exploring the world and capturing its wonders through my lens. For those interested in undertaking a similar expedition, I recommend being well informed, prepared, and confident in your equipment.
In short, our adventure on Volcano of Fire was much more than just a trip. It was a journey of self-discovery, camaraderie, and admiration for the beauty of the world around us. Although we faced challenges and difficult moments along the way, each step brought us closer to the top and reminded us of the importance of living.
